About Us

Rising Majority is a broad-based coalition of Black, Indigenous, people of color (POC), and multiracial groups on the political Left convened in 2017 by the Movement for Black Lives. Rising Majority was convened to develop greater alignment among organizations working in different arenas of struggle in response to the urgency of this political moment and the assaults on the wellbeing of our people.

Rising Majority brings together a wide range of forceslabor, youth, and feminists; activists working toward abolition, immigrant rights, economic and environmental justice; and activists working against climate change, war, and imperialism. Together, we amplify our collective power and demonstrate the importance of movement building through an anti-racist, anti-capitalist, and pro-feminist lens on the US Left in order to fight against the threats of fascism and authoritarianism.

We insist that the only way to win the just and humane world we imagine is by looking to the most oppressed and marginalized sectors of our society for leadership, inspiration, and direction. Therefore, in all that we do, Rising Majority centers the leadership of Black people, people of color, women, poor people, and working-class people, as well as LGBTQI folks, and other frontline communities.

We have chosen the name Rising Majority for two reasons, both of which anchor us to racial democratic politics: First, communities of color will be the demographic majority in the US in our lifetime, as it is in the world. Second, most poor, working-class, and middle-class people have had our economic interests hijacked by an elite, super-wealthy minority. We embrace both these rising majorities in seeking an agenda for racial and economic justice.
